At Lotus Sustainables, this day hits close to home, because protecting the planet is at the heart of everything we do.
Why Earth Day Matters
Every April 22nd, Earth Day calls on us to take a collective deep breath and remember: this big blue planet is the only home we’ve got. It’s a reminder that every choice we make: from what we eat to how we shop - and how it can can either help or harm the Earth.
And while that might sound heavy, here’s the thing: Earth Day isn’t about guilt. It’s about possibility. It’s about imagining (and creating) a better, cleaner, kinder future, together.
A Little Earth Day History
Earth Day began back in 1970, when 20 million people (that’s 10% of the U.S. population at the time!) took to the streets to protest pollution and environmental neglect. It was a moment of unity, sparked by a growing awareness that the health of our planet was tied directly to our own well-being.
That movement worked. It helped launch the Environmental Protection Agency and pushed landmark legislation like the Clean Air Act and the Clean Water Act into being. Fast forward to today: Earth Day is celebrated by more than a billion people in over 190 countries — making it the largest secular civic event in the world. That’s a lot of love for our planet.
What It Means to Us at Lotus
At Lotus Sustainables, Earth Day isn’t just a calendar event. It’s baked into everything we do — from the materials we choose to the partners we work with, and most importantly, to why we started in the first place.
In 2017, our founders Jen and Farzan had a vision: a world without plastic bags. Just a little dream, right? But from that vision came the Lotus Trolley Bag - a simple, joyful solution to one of the world’s biggest problems. And since then? Together, we’ve helped eliminate the need for over 5 billion plastic bags. That’s billion, with a B.
We’ve grown into a certified B Corp with a deep commitment to ethical manufacturing, sustainable living, and proving that life without single-use plastic isn’t just possible - it’s actually easier. Every product we create is meant to make your everyday routine feel smoother, more intentional, and a whole lot greener.
